The Ball Ground Volunteer Fire Department was established in the 1950s with only a dozen or so volunteers. Ball Ground was the second volunteer station in the county to have a two-way radio and was the first to have a pull station. Whenever there was a fire, someone would use the pull station to activate the siren, alerting the volunteers of a fire. Today, our fire department operates two stations. Station 2, which opened its new doors on December 28th, 2016, sits at the intersection of Valley Street and Coy M. Holcomb Drive. It is manned 24/7 by Cherokee County firefighters. Station 26 is located on Dogwood Pass in Nelson, and is 100% volunteer.
