The Cherokee County Historical Society was founded in 1975 by a group interested in preserving local history and is dedicated to historic preservation and education. The Historical Society is an advocate for preservation in Cherokee County through our annual Historic Preservation Awards and Sites Worth Saving. We also provide local property owners with preservation assistance. The Historical Society is the caretaker for important artifacts and documents pertaining to Cherokee County’s history. A 501(c)3 organization, the Society shares these materials through publications, exhibitions, and public programs so that Cherokee County residents and visitors can learn about our rich history.
