The Ball Ground (Anetsa-Ga-Da) Garden Club was organized in 1951. The regular club meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday at 9:30 am of each month, except June, July and August. Most meetings are held at Westminster Chapel in Ball Ground. The Club is a part of the National Garden Club, the Deep South Region, the Garden Club of Georgia, the Laurel District, and the Garden Club Council of Cherokee County. The Garden Club of Georgia's mission is Beautification, Education and Conservation. We support state projects, i.e., scholarships, etc., as well as the County Council maintaining the Blue Star Marker at the GA National Cemetery. Our club prepares and maintains planters of flowers on Main Street and at the Lions Club Ball Field, as well as developing and maintaining the Ball Ground Botanical Garden. The Ball Ground Botanical Garden was organized in 2015. In only 3 years a beautiful garden has been developed by the Ball Ground Garden Club and the City of Ball Ground. Funds for plants and development come from the sale of Honorary and Memorial Bricks by the club, donations to the City of Ball Ground Botanical Garden Fund (tax exempt) and Sponsors whose names are placed on the marble kiosk. The garden consists of a Rosalyn Carter Butterfly Trail, an heirloom garden, a rose garden, a native plant garden, a children's garden, a bog garden, an herb garden, a Japanese garden, day lily and hydrangea beds, memorial trees, and a babbling brook!
The Ball Ground Historical Society was formed as a result of the Ball Ground School Reunion held in 2012. As a new elementary school was built to serve Ball Ground, alumni organized the reunion so that anyone who ever attended or worked at a school in Ball Ground, be it elementary or high school, could gather together to reminisce and share memories of a place held near and dear to so many hearts. From that comradely the group believed with an organized society, the high spirits and love for Ball Ground could continue on. Thus the group met, formulated by-laws, nominated and elected officers and the Ball Ground Historical Society was chartered on June 26, 2012. The Society’s Mission Statement is to ‘honor, protect and encourage the preservation of Ball Ground’s history and heritage’.
