Ball Ground History
The residents of Ball Ground are proud of the community's heritage. This quiet community is family-oriented with rich history.
Two and one-half miles to the East, near Long Swamp Creek and the Etowah River, is the site of the Battle of Taliwa, the most decisive battle of the war between the Cherokee and Creek Indians in the 1700s. History tells that the conflict over territory was determined by a stickball game here.
A Growing City
Before the railroad came through in 1882, the city was almost purely agricultural. After the railroad, the town grew because of the marble-working industry. Today, Ball Ground is growing and we want you to be part of our growth and development by supporting the Ball Ground Business Association.
